Things that inspire you to do better or achieve your dreams. A field called architecture has been developing strategies to promote such feelings in its audience for quite some time now.

Architecture can be described as creating spaces or environments with well-thought out patterns and shapes. These patterns are usually inspired by natural landscapes or geometric figures like squares and rectangles. The space itself is also important – an empty room will not inspire anyone, whereas one with beautifully painted walls may.

Queen’s University is considered to have architecture because it teaches students how to create buildings or structures using formal principles of proportion, color, and shape. Some people even describe it as beautiful! This article will talk more about why this perception is wrong and what really makes something qualify as having architectural qualities.

Important architects

The term important architect is not given to just any person who designs buildings, it is reserved for people that make an impact on the architecture field. These individuals create art that people admire and strive to imitate or surpass their work.

Some examples of significant artists are Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, and Vincent van Gogh. All three made masterpieces that have stood the test of time and inspired many other artists.

Architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Edith Wharton, and Le Corbusier are also considered important designers. Each one left their own unique style that has been copied by many architects since then.

These people do not consider themselves artist-architects, but they definitely fit the definition of important designer. This comes from how well they designed something aesthetically and how influential their works were.

Another reason why these men are considered important is because they created pieces that have withstood the test of time. Many of their works remain popular to this day.

Famous architects

Many famous architects are graduates of QUB, including some who have gone onto great success in their career. Some well-known alumni include:

Another famous architect that attended QUB is Mario Bellini. He went onto create several notable works including St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate in San Francisco.

Architectural terms

There are two main types of architects that use architectural terminology. They are called practising professionals and academic architects. Practicing professional architects work in industry, creating designs for buildings or renovations.

Academic architects design courses at universities. These courses can be art, architecture, landscape, interior or urban studies. Landscape architects design landscapes such as gardens and parks, while urban designers plan where things like shops and offices will go.

Prospective students should make sure to research which degree programs at Queen’s have an architect credential before deciding if this is something they want to pursue.

Organization of an architecture firm

An organization of architects is needed to create buildings or projects. This organization comes with its own bureaucracy, which takes time to develop but can be very expensive depending on the size of the project.

Architects must have at least a bachelor’s degree in design, so they are usually commissioned as independent contractors rather than being hired through employment.

This means that even though they belong to an organized group, their day-to-day working relationship is not supervised by someone else, nor do they work under strict deadlines. They are typically paid per unit produced (for example, one house built) while taking as much time as necessary to produce it.

These things aside, there is still something important that needs to be mentioned about practicing architectural field – you will need to prove your expertise in the field!

Proving professional proficiency requires more than just having a BA in art, business administration, or engineering. You will need to show off your skills by completing certification exams, keeping up to date on current developments, and presenting and publishing your designs. All this takes time and effort, which some people may not have due to other commitments.

What is a building plan?

A building or architectural diagram is called a drawing, or a design. Most people when they say “architectural drawing” mean something like this:

A floorplan, site plan, section, topdown, vertical cross-section, perspective view, or any similar type of drawing can be an architectural drawing.

However, there are some types of drawings that cannot be considered architectural. For example, you might see diagrams of stick figures with funny hats talking about money. These pictures could be designed to look very artistic, but they would not necessarily relate to architecture.

Another non-architectural drawing is one that does not show how a product works or what it looks like.

How to design a building

The term ‘architecture’ comes from the greek word archis, which means ruler or master of gates or doors. In ancient Greece, architecture was considered an artistic discipline that involved creative use of space, proportion, and mathematical principles.

Since then, architects have been designing buildings through different styles and techniques. Some designers focus more on incorporating beautiful shapes into structures, while others research efficient structural designs that optimize strength and weight.

Architects also plan routes for moving vehicles, determine appropriate materials for construction, and study how light interacts with spaces in various configurations. All these components combine together to form what we call architectural style.

At Queens, you will learn about all of these concepts as well as how to apply them towards creating your own unique style. However, before you start practicing your craft, it is important to understand some fundamental terms first.

These include such terminology as ratio, axis, and focal points. When thinking about proportions, make sure to compare similar parts of a structure or object. For example, if you want your room to be bigger, look at rooms with much larger windows or walls that are off-centered.

This gives the feeling that there is not enough space inside, making it seem like less than it actually is. An alternative way to think about proportions is looking at how tall an object is compared to its width. A staircase is an excellent example of this, as it gets longer as it goes up.

Architectural styles

The term “architecture” can be tricky, with some defining it as something like painting or sculpture that uses shapes and proportion to tell a story, and others using the word more broadly to include things like construction or urban planning.

However, when we talk about architectural styles, people usually agree that they consist of specific features, called elements, that come together to create an overall look.

Some examples of architectural styles are Neoclassical, Gothic, Chunky, Minimalist, Deco, and Contemporary. All contain certain parts that differ from each other, making them easy to identify.

Organization of an architecture team

As with any large group, organization is crucial to ensure that everyone contributes their individual skills and time. An architect’s job can be very specific, such as designing a house or a boat, so they will sometimes work alone. However, most architects also have other members of the team working with them, making sure that what they create looks correct and fits with the overall style of the firm.

This isn’t always the case, but it is common for architects to have colleagues in various departments who they collaborate with on projects. For instance, someone might design the interior layout and decoration of a restaurant, while another adds brick texture and patterning to the walls and floor.

Architecture students may feel overwhelmed by the number of people needed to produce something professional looking, but there are ways to manage this. Many schools now offer groups called practice units (or PUs) where one person is assigned a project, a department head covers his/her shifts, and then the student works with just him/ herself. This way, the student gets more responsibility at a manageable level, and the department head helps keep track of everything.
