The term ‘bad architecture’ is not very popular, but it definitely exists. People seem to have an opinion about it, even if they aren’t quite sure what makes something bad architectural.
Some people consider buildings with large glass windows and rooftop decks as poor design choices. Others criticize overly-ornate or shiny building facades that distract from the natural surroundings.
But what most people refer to when they use this term doesn’t really make sense. It seems like they are talking about something vague and ambiguous, so they add their own adjectives to get more specific.
The reason why this isn’t a good idea is because these additional descriptors don’t necessarily relate to how well built the structure is. They could be style traits, personal preferences, or both!
This article will take a closer look at the word “architecture”, what it means, and some of the things that can (and sometimes do) detract from its quality. Then, we will discuss some examples of structures that have been labeled as having bad architecture, and why this is inaccurate.
We will also talk about some other terms used to describe poorly designed buildings, and determine whether or not they are appropriate.

A building or structure that is appealing, aesthetically pleasing, well designed, and/or functional is considered to be good architecture.
Many people believe that great architects are only able to construct beautiful buildings, but this is not true!
Good architects must also understand how to design functionsable spaces, they have to know basic architectural theories like proportion and symmetry, and they have to be familiar with various styles and types of architectures.
This article will discuss some examples of bad architectural designs. These may include things such as using too many decorations, laying out rooms in awkward ways, and having boring colors and patterns. By understanding why these features are not very effective, then you can apply that knowledge to create your own designs.

A lot of people consider architects to be rich, wealthy, professional designers that sit in expensive buildings designing beautiful spaces and landscapes.
However, this isn’t always the case! Some architects are actually making enough money to survive, but they're not doing anything significant with their careers.
Architects who don't do much more than design pretty rooms or even offices for very large companies are not considered professionals.
Furthermore, some architects get paid extremely well because they only look at easy projects, which is also seen as non-professional.
There are many types of bad architectural practices, but one of the most common ones is called Neoclassical. This will have you knowing what it is before you read too far.
Neo-classicism is just plain looking good. It's like going into a restaurant and ordering fried chicken - delicious and satisfying, but not really healthy unless you add vegetables onto it.

Technically, great architects are good at designing buildings or houses or apartments or shopping centers!
That is not what most people think when they talk about “architecture”. They seem to associate it more with big flashy statements like, “The architect designed such-and-such” or “You can tell he/she really knows their stuff because of this beautiful flowing shape.”
A lot of people also assume that an architect is someone who goes around making pretty pictures and giving out certificates after doing so.
This isn’t true either. Not all professional architects need to design very impressive looking skyscrapers or house concepts anymore. In fact, some even go against the grain by creating simple designs that still look nice.
Architects today have to deal with many things that were not needed back in the era of the Ancient Greeks! For example, they have to take care of budgets, clients, contractors, and structural engineers (more on them later).
They also have to make sure everything is legalized according to zoning laws and environmental regulations. And finally, they have to prepare for lawsuits!
All these things take up a lot of time, which is why there are only a small number of professionals working as architects. There are just not that many jobs available for talented people.
It is tough being an architectural prodigy if you do not get much employment.

Technically, an architecture style is just how buildings are organized. For example, if you look at most skyscraper structures, they have their own special organization that makes them unique.
Typically, this includes things like arches or other shaped roofs, lots of windows, tall towers with many steps, etc.
These types of features make the building distinctive and recognizable so people can tell who built it. With all these references, architects develop a vocabulary to describe the shapes they use in their designs.
This gives your design “style” because everything in your design uses those same elements. It becomes part of your stylistic identity! - Daniel Lett
There are several different architectural styles available. Some are very popular while others get little attention. This could be due to the uniqueness of the style or maybe because people don’t know what to compare it to.
A few examples of architectural styles include Neoclassical, Minimalist, Deconstructivist, Postmodernism, and more. A lot of these styles were already mentioned above, but let’s take a closer look at some specific ones.

An architect is someone who creates environments, systems, or objects through designing creative concepts and developing them into reality. Architects also shape space, light, and time to emphasize certain qualities in buildings and spaces.
Architects are not only responsible for the aesthetic appeal of a building, but also how well it works with its surrounding environment. They combine these features to create effective designs that meet the needs of the people using the space.
Overall, their main goal is to make things look beautiful and function properly.
They are likewise tasked with educating the public about the built environment by creating aesthetically pleasing structures that convey a sense of space, proportion, and unity. Given this, there are many ways architects can show lack of professionalism.
Running gags include when architects fail to use proper grammar and vocab, misuse terminology, take too much pride in their work, and/or produce boring or monotonous projects. All of these are serious mistakes that negatively affect the perception of architecture as an art form.

That is one of the most confusing things about architects. Technically, an architect isn’t really someone who designs buildings or works in civil engineering, but rather someone who creates concepts that promote healthy living environments.
The term comes from Greek words meaning “to plan” and "master." Therefore, an architect is someone with creative vision who plans complex ideas.
However, this definition doesn’t tell you much about what an architect actually does. Most people associate architecture only with designing beautiful structures, so their perception gets skewed when they look at the job title. In fact, only around 20% of all architects have direct involvement in design projects (1).
Most other jobs require more than just being an artist, so why should we pay more for the same thing? Artists get paid well because their work touches upon many different topics and areas.
As we have seen, architecture is an integral part of every major city’s landscape. It impacts your daily life in many ways, from how you navigate through a space to what kind of health care you can find locally.
Architecture also shapes our culture. Buildings tell us who built them, give us clues about time periods, and influence how people interact with each other.
Furthermore, as we have discussed, architectural styles set trends that become common place. Looking at the world through the lens of one style influences how people perceive art and design.
Overall, great architecture makes for a more aesthetically pleasing environment and helps create concepts like unity or balance. All these qualities contribute to making the space feel solid, strong, and confident.
When needed, great architecture brings clarity to complex ideas or situations. This effect goes beyond just looking pretty; it informs by setting standards and rules.
The way buildings use proportion, line, and shape convey messages about who constructed them and why. In today’s over-connected digital society, this “standards and rule” effect adds weight to the concept of unity.
It reminds us that even though there may be a lot of diversity out there, there are still clear expectations for how things should look and function.
In fact, some would say that having lots of different architectures readily available gives us a sense of security because they represent known quantities.

So what is architecture, then? According to TheFreeDictionary it is “the art or profession of designing buildings and landscapes” but that doesn’t really help much does it?
Architecture has been around for at least 5,000 years and was practiced by many different cultures across continents. Ancient Egypts had some pretty incredible architects who designed everything from giant stone sphinxes to towering obelisks!
Many ancient civilizations built their homes and temples out of natural materials like granite or limestone which they worked into shapes they considered beautiful.
As civilization advanced people began building larger and more elaborate structures such as palace complexes or arenas where large groups of people could gather.
The Romans are well known for having huge architectural feats such as the Colosseum or the Roman Empire. Many other countries have become famous for creating their own style in architecture so there are plenty of examples of how popular this field is.
