But no matter what area of architecture they specialize in, all architects have one thing in common: creating environments that inspire people.

Organization of an architecture firm

An architect is someone who comes together with other architects to create buildings or landscapes, according to a set of well-defined roles and responsibilities.

An architect designs spaces and environments. He/she also collaboratively leads and guides designers in their field to produce effective visuals and shapes for your project.

That is definitely not you or me. We are already defining what an architect is by saying something about people.

So if we were to describe a true architect, they would be someone who can design anything beyond human environments – even plants and flowers!

Architects spend time designing spaces for humans to inhabit, but there are some who also take extra time to admire nature and create designs inspired by plant and flower patterns. These architects call themselves “plant artists”.

Another type of architectural designer focuses their energy only on creating spaces for people to live in, which is called urban planning.

These types of architects must understand space, proportion, and geometry very well, as they are able to design rooms and cities away from civilization.

Get into architecture to become a _________.

For example, writing a story with narrative structure has parallels in designing rooms for efficiency and effectiveness. The setting, characters, and plot all contribute to the experience of reading the book, which feels like moving through a space and experiencing different emotions.

Writing stories with strong narratives also uses concepts such as cause and effect, forward movement, and climaxes to achieve their goals. Architectural layouts use similar principles to create intuitive experiences for people.

Choose an architecture school carefully

While some may consider all architects to be designers, this is not necessarily the case. An architect can choose to design any type of building or space, but they must have a degree from an architectural institution to call themselves that.

Architecture is a very diverse field that spans many different specialties. Some areas people associate with as “architect” such as designing skyscrapers are actually part of other fields such as civil engineering.

Likewise, interior decoration isn't strictly related to being an architect either, though most architects typically include it in their portfolio. A person with a bachelor's degree in art history is not only able to do graphic design, but also painting and sculpting!

This means there are several routes into the profession for those who wish to pursue it. For example, someone with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design could easily transfer over to become an Architect since both require a degree in something academic.
