Chandigarh is arguably one of the top five design capitals in the world. With over 300 years of architecture, there are many beautiful buildings to admire here. This includes everything from modern skyscrapers to historical monuments built centuries ago!
Chandigarh’s status as a global architectural showcase comes not only from its impressive collection of structures but also due to the fact that it has some of the most vibrant and active student groups in the field. These include students clubs such as the Indian Association for Architectural Education (IAA) and The Society of Architects of India (SAI), international events like the World Student Design Expo (WSDEX) and Mobile Exhibition Systems International (MESi).
Furthermore, several professionals actively work in the city to give back to the community through projects including hospitals, educational institutions and recreational facilities. All this inspired us at CareerComm University to name our new Bachelor degree program in Urban Graphic Design “Chandigarh College of Architecture”.
This article will talk you through what being an architect means, why becoming an architect is important and how studying urban graphic design can be helpful towards your career. We will also discuss some key differences between working as an architect and designing logos, posters and other types of graphics.

Like any other major city, Chandigarh has played an integral role in shaping not only its surrounding area but also our understanding of architecture as a discipline. Buildings have constantly reflected changing cultures and aesthetics, from palace to modern structures!
Chandigarh is home to some beautiful examples of every architectural style, including neoclassical, Art Deco, Gothic, Neoclassic revival, Brutalist, Functionalist, Postmodern and Minimalist styles. Some of these are world-famous while others remain relatively unknown.
Many famous landmarks can be found scattered across the sprawling urban landscape of Chandigarh – it’s almost impossible to visit this city without having passed at least one building that you have seen before. But what about those lesser known sites? What stories do they tell us about the architect and their career path?
As someone who loves studying history, I was fascinated to learn more about the rich heritage of local architects.
Many people consider Amritsar’s Taj Mahal to be one of India’s greatest monuments, but it is not the country’s tallest building or even its most beautiful. That title goes to The Leisure Centre-Amrith Bhavan built by Narmada builders in 1984-1985.
It features an interesting design that includes two overlapping cones connected at their top. This structure looks similar to a volcano with the cone representing the head and the link bar representing the neck.
This type of shape is called a “pyramid with horn” which are sometimes referred to as horns of hare due to their similarity in appearance. It is also known as a half mushroom because it has only half the diameter of a normal mushroom.
The pyramid with horn was designed by Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy who studied under the famous Italian Renaissance master Antonio Giorgio Vico Scuola. He later became his assistant and close friend. You may have heard of this man before he died while trying to save others during the deadly 2013 Peshawar School Massacre in Pakistan.
He left behind several projects including the Pyramid with Horn in Chandigarh mentioned above. More information about him can be found here.

There are three main categories that most architecture schools include in their curriculum- historic, contemporary, and future styles. Historic styles are those that have evolved over time and incorporated various elements to become what we know as classic architectures.
Contemporary styles are just like their name suggests- they’re built within the past two decades or so. Some examples of this style are skyscrapers, shopping malls, and hotels.
Future styles are also referred to as sustainable design because they use resources efficiently and reduce energy consumption. A few examples of this style are big rooftop gardens or green roofs where plants grow directly onto the roof.
Chandigarh college of architecture is an excellent school for students who want to learn about historic styles. They focus more on details than anything else, making it a great choice if you love looking at lots of pretty things!
Historic styles are usually categorized into several different groups such as Neoclassical, Mission Style, Gothic Revival, Renaissance, and Chinggis Khan (yes, really). Each of these has their own characteristics including material used, proportion, and overall shape.
Many architects combine features from one style with another to create new designs, which is why there are so many different shapes and proportions in current styles.

There are many different architectural styles that can be identified from studying pictures and diagrams of buildings. Some of these styles include Neoclassical, Art Deco, Gothic, Romanesque, Chippendale, Mission Style, Neo-Grec, Transitional, Prairie, Minimalist, and Futuristic.
Neoclassicism is characterized by large neoclassic columns or pilasters with proportionally sized entablatures and pediments. This style originated during the Renaissance period and was later adapted for use in the late 18th century. Many famous structures such as The White House and the United States Capitol are considered examples of this style.
Art deco is known for its sleek, streamlined look. Structures built during this time frame were typically very thin and had elaborate decorations and patterns. Famous art deco monuments include the Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower.
Gothic architecture features arches, vaults, and ribbed vaulted ceilings. These types of roofs are typical to castles and cathedrals across Europe and America. Buildings constructed using Gothic style design are also said to have an element of mystery to them, making people want to explore them more closely.
Romanesque architectures feature rounded arches, thick walls, and heavy doorways. This style was most popular in Northern Europe at the beginning of the Christian era.

Many people are familiar with the work of I.M. Pei, one of the most famous American architect of the 20th century. He is best known for his glass skyscraper designs that feature rounded shapes and curved lines. His design style has been copied many times over since his retirement in 2004.
Another well-known architect from India is Leen van der Velden. He was born in The Netherlands but now lives and works in Chandigarh. Like I. M. Pei, he also uses heavy use of glass as a material. This gives his buildings their unique look while still letting light flow in.
Chandigarh’s college of architecture is not very large, which means there are only around twenty students per class. This does not seem like much, but these students have full access to all of the materials and equipment needed to study architectural theory and practice!
There are frequent events organized by students at the college such as open coffee hours where anyone can drop in and talk about anything related to studying or working in the field. These events give those who do not know each other an opportunity to meet and connect with others in the area.

Terms like architect, designer, or drafter are all related to architecture. But what is really important to know about them is that only people with at least an undergraduate degree in art, design, or building can use the term “architect”.
Only architects can use the word "architect" so make sure you have your college documents proof!
The term "designer" is also limited to those with artistic talent who create interior and exterior spaces for buildings or landscapes.
Landscape designers work more with nature than interior designers, which deal mostly with furniture and space.
A builderor structural engineeris someone who works with civil engineering. They designs roofs, walls, and other structures that hold up buildings or shape land. A lot of builders are not creative artists but they are very practical and detail oriented.
An architect is usually considered the most creatively talented and educated of the three. Because they combine both structure and decoration, they get the best of both worlds.

Like any other field, painting is an expression of your inner self. What kind of artist you want to be comes down to how much you enjoy creating pictures and shapes with colors.
Architecture is a beautiful art form that makes use of color, proportion, and shape. To truly understand it, you must learn about colors, proportions, and shapes.
This article will go into more detail on some types of architectural paintings and what materials you can add or subtract from them to achieve this effect. By now, you should have enough information to begin trying out new designs!

A drawing is like a story, it can tell you something about the space or the object being drawn. It also represents how to construct the object or area being depicted. As such, creating drawingsis one of the most fundamental skills that aspiring architects must have.
Architects are typically trained in art first, then philosophy (the study of logic and reasoning) and finally engineering. Only after all three areas are mastered does education in architectural design begin!
Because an architect designs buildings and rooms, their job requires them to understand the shapes, sizes, materials and structures of various spaces. This includes understanding what colors look good together and which styles are popular.
They are also tasked with knowing mathematics related to proportions and spatial relationships. These maths include things like determining the length and height of a room based on its walls, windows and other features.
Lastly, an architect needs to be able to create his/her own illustrations and diagrams to convey ideas and concepts for new projects. Having your own style will help keep you focused at times.
There are many ways to learn drawing as an amateur architect. You can take traditional painting classes or enroll in an art college where students are taught using real-life examples.
Alternatively, there are now computer software programs designed specifically to teach people how to draw. Some even offer free accounts so you do not need to spend money on expensive lessons.
