Being an architecture student is not for the inexperienced or faint of heart, but it is a rewarding career that can truly set you up for success anywhere in the world. There are many ways to be an architect, so what kind of designer you want to be is dependent on your dreams, goals, and strengths.
The term “architect” has gotten pretty bloated over the past few decades. Some people use this term very loosely and assume it just means someone who designs buildings. This isn’t a bad thing unless they don’t know anything about how architects actually practice their craft!
A rising number of students are choosing to go into design with either landscape or urban planning as their area of focus. These two areas have some similarities (both deal heavily in geography and nature) but there are important differences as well. Make sure you are clear on the difference before deciding which one sounds more appealing to you.
Another popular option is studying both interior and exterior architectural styling, also known as fashion or furniture designing. Not only do these professions pay really well, but most employers require at least a bachelor’s degree in any of them anyway!
There are several schools and universities across America offering degrees in architecture. No matter where you go to school, however, make sure you are investing in your education by looking into all of the resources available to you. Technology makes learning easier than ever, so do not underestimate the importance of online courses and study materials.

As we mentioned before, being an architecture student is a long-term process that requires consistent effort. It will not happen overnight, so be sure to look into the different types of schools out there and determine which one makes you feel most comfortable.
It’s important to find a school that feels like home to you. You should be able to tell if this is the case by looking at several factors such as how beautiful the buildings are, what subjects they offer, whether or not students seem passionate about studying architecture, and of course, their tuition fees!
Also make sure to check out the school’s social media pages to see what kind of content they share and get some insight into who these people are. This can help you decide if the school is for you or not because you would want to learn more from someone who seems like an interesting person.

After you graduate, the next thing you should do is make a plan for where you want to go as an architect. You can be very creative in your choice of career paths, but making a living as an architect will depend mostly on two things: having adequate education and training and being able to market yourself.
Education is definitely important to have if you want to become an architect, but beyond that it’s more about knowing what kind of architect you would like to be. This includes finding out whether you prefer working with people or alone, whether you are good at drawing or designing buildings, and so on.
Market yourself by creating a strong portfolio showing examples of both successful and unsuccessful designs. Don’t worry about looking perfect, rather focus on showing off the qualities of your design style and how well you express yourself through architecture.
If you feel that you cannot fulfill these requirements then maybe teaching is the better option for you.

After deciding that you want to be an architect, the next thing you need to do is prepare for the exam. This includes having your ID ready, buying some books or gathering materials through schools, publishers, or via Amazon!
Having your ID ready will help you prove who you are in case there is ever a dispute over your identity. You can take this as either being required by law to have it, or just good practice.
By having it, you also show proof of education which is great if you need to put down on applications that you’ve graduated high school, college, or university.
If you already have some architectural material, great! But remember, not every school requires students to showcase their work so make sure to check out what each one demands before investing in new material.
General tips: When putting together your portfolio, try to include both designed structures as well as drawings, floor plans, and/or models.
There should be at least three pieces per category.

Getting into architecture is not as difficult as some might think! Most colleges offer at least one course in architectural design or theory, and most universities have an undergraduate program that can be completed in 4-6 years depending on how many other courses you take.
Most students are also allowed to explore different fields within architecture such as interior design, landscape design, or graphic design while completing their bachelor’s degree. Some even allow students to pursue both Bachelor’s degrees and graduate degrees like Masters of Architecture (MArch) or Master of Landscape Design (MLD).
Graduate programs usually require a master’s degree first, which often requires only one year to obtain, so it is best to start thinking about what level of education you would like to achieve well before school starts in the fall!
Making friends in college will depend heavily on who you are around and what people do during student events, so try to interact with everyone and go to as many classes as possible to connect with others.

As we already mentioned, being an architect is a lot of things – designing buildings, developing building plans, working with contractors, marketing your firm, etc. All of these require you to be someone people can trust, consistent work ethic, and that you have knowledge of how to perform each one of them.
So while it is ideal to land an internship or full-time position through an architecture school, this isn’t necessarily the case. You should try your hardest to find employment as an architect in any way possible!
Landing an internship at an architecture firm is the best way to gain experience (and hopefully a paid position later on). Or if you are more experienced, look into becoming a licensed professional architect. This will help promote your career even further.
Another way to get practice for being an architect is by volunteering! There are so many ways to volunteer, from designing houses and landscapes to helping manage an organization that focuses on educating students about architects.

As we already mentioned, being an architect is more than just picking colors and shapes for buildings. It also means developing your creativity in other areas of life. Being creative can mean designing logos or brands, creating illustrations and cartoons, or even doing crafts or DIY projects.
Architects use their creativity in many different ways every day, so why should you not try it?
Being artistic is very important to architects. They must develop his/her skills on a constant basis or risk becoming obsolete when up-to-date technology makes practicing architecture difficult.
Using design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Sketch, and InDesign allows users to edit textures, color schemes, and overall layouts easily. Technological advances make it easy to produce perfect looking designs quickly and efficiently.
Some people may think that using these programs is beyond the average person’s budget, but they are definitely something anyone can learn! Most software companies offer beginner packages free of cost to get started.
There are plenty of online resources available to help teach you the basics, and most accept students anywhere from zero to advanced levels.

Being an architecture student is not like being a student in any other field that requires you to go back and re-learn what you have already learned. This is not the case with architectural schools!
Architecture is a ever changing field that never stops educating students. There will always be new things you need to learn, new theories you need to understand, and new skills you need to develop or refresh.
This is why it is important to continue your education after graduation. You will still need to take courses outside of school to stay up to date on your profession, but attending events and workshops is a great way to do this as well.
There are many ways to remain educated without paying tuition fees, such as taking part in free seminars and lectures, reading professional books, and even studying online course material. It does not matter how much money you spend on education, there are always ways to get the information needed for success.

It is very important to have adequate coverage while you are studying architecture. You will be spending lots of money on tuition, books, and other materials, so it makes sense to make sure you have enough coverage to help pay for it all!
Most students do not require health insurance because most schools offer free or low cost medical services to their students. But this can only last for so long, especially as students age and begin requiring more healthcare.
So even if your school does give you free healthcare, it is still a good idea to find affordable health insurance.
