How To be the best Architect

Being an architect is a tough job. Sure, you get to design beautiful buildings, but there are so many ways to be considered "architectural." You can spend your time designing skyscrapers or small homes, or even being creative with how you use materials!

As human beings we place importance on things that make us feel good about ourselves. Buildings are no exception- people often refer to them as “tourist attractions” or simply say they're "beautiful" or "cool" when talking about them.

It's great to know what makes someone consider something beautiful or not, but unfortunately, it isn't always practical knowledge.

A person's perception of beauty may be influenced by their culture and upbringing. This means that two different individuals could perceive the same thing as beautiful, making it difficult to apply general rules to determine if a concept is attractive or not.

Another reason why it's hard to describe whether or not something is aesthetically pleasing is because some concepts have no clear defining feature. Technically speaking, a circle is never ugly, but most people agree that triangles are less appealing than squares.

This article will go into more detail about some types of architects and what qualities made them successful. After reading this, you'll know just like me (the outside observer) what traits contribute to someone being considered an architectural genius.

Understand your clients

As we mentioned before, being an excellent architect requires understanding who your clients are and what they want from you. This is very important as it impacts how you design buildings and programs.

Clients come in all shapes and sizes. Some like bold colors and flashy designs, while others value sustainability and eco-friendly materials.

Some just want to spend money, whereas other people may feel that spending too much is not worth it because of where their income comes from.

Everyone has different priorities when it comes to things such as cost effectiveness and quality of life, which makes designing for them a fun challenge!

As architects, we must be aware of these differences and use this information to create aesthetically pleasing spaces for our audiences.

Make your clients feel important

As an architecture student, you will need to be able to connect with people at all levels-students, professors, alumni, employers, fellow architects. When talking to other people, make sure their feelings are taken into consideration and that they have faith in your talents as a designer.

Never underestimate the power of compliment. The way to get those compliments is by putting in the effort to do good work and show off your skills.

Keep up-to-date with current trends in design and learn from experienced professionals. Read business books and self-help guides to find out how professional groups manage their relationships and communication.

Avoid being too flashy or having overly complicated designs – create clean, efficient spaces that speak for themselves.

Architects must remain organized and keep track of everything related to their field. Use appropriate software to organize projects and documents and back them up securely. Keep copies of your own drawings somewhere safe so you won’t lose them due to computer problems. You can also buy third party software designed specifically for archivists.

Add texture to your life by keeping yourself busy. Do something you love to do, but not necessarily what's easy! If you ever feel like giving up, remember why you wanted to become an architect in the first place - to help others achieve success through creating space for growth and productivity.

Communicate well

As we know, architects are people who communicate with other people about architecture. Architects spend lots of time talking about buildings and the design process so that others can understand it better. This includes talking about what styles or types of building you like and why, as well as discussing the effects your favorite style has on the space around it.

Furthermore, it means explaining why certain designs look good is more important than looking beautiful in itself. It’s not enough to just admire something — you have to analyze how an element of the design functions to gain full understanding.

That said, while most people will agree that a beautifully designed house is aesthetically pleasing to look at, some may be less interested in finding out why it looks nice. They might instead want to learn more about how practical the home is, for example, if it’s meant to be a residence or if it’s intended for use during an earthquake.

Similarly, when someone asks you about a particular building, don’t simply tell them what you liked about it, but give your reasoning and insights into how it works too. If they ask you why something doesn’t work, refer to our tip above: Don’t say only that it’s ugly, explain why it’s inefficiently used or poorly engineered.

Be a lifelong learner

Being an architect is a constantly changing field that requires you to keep learning new skills and concepts. This includes educating yourself about current trends in architecture, design principles, and software used for creating designs.

To be considered professional, you must have at least a bachelor’s degree or higher in architectural studies as well as certification (if possible). Beyond education, practicing architects are always developing their skill set by taking courses and training in newer technology and techniques.

Architecture is a beautiful creative form of expression that can be practiced by anyone with enough passion and motivation to learn it. It does not require too much formal schooling beyond what is needed to earn your bachelor’s degree, but still important to pursue continuing education.

Stay current with design

Being an architect is more than just picking up some tools and designing buildings, it is about staying abreast of what’s happening in the field and incorporating those lessons into your own style.

Architecture is a constantly changing discipline that moves at a rapid pace. Technology has allowed for ever-expanding ways to create structures, which means new styles are being explored every day!

Reading through past work of renowned architects can also give you some great tips and tricks to look out for. Many successful designers have their own way of organizing space, material choice, and so forth.

By keeping up with the trends, you will find yourself naturally developing your personal architecture style. Plus, it’ll help you become familiar with how different architects approach projects, making it easier to imitate them later on.

Take time to admire architectural masterpieces as well as casual looks you may have seen before. Looking at everything from wide angles to close ups helps expose new features, which only enhance the overall beauty of the structure.

Avoid looking at pictures of famous buildings online or in magazines; instead, read some articles and explore sites dedicated to contemporary designs.

Find your passion and those who feel the same

It is impossible to be best in architecture if you don’t love it. You have to really want what you do, and how ever much money you need to pursue it doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it.

If you are not enjoying what you study, then why continue? If you are no longer motivated by learning new things, then why keep going?

Architects spend lots of time studying different aspects of their field, but they never seem to find the time to put all that knowledge into practice. This is because they haven’t found someone else who feels the same way they do about their chosen career path.

They also can’t find people who are willing to pay them enough for their services so that they can afford to live a decent life.

Get an education

Being an architect is much more than being able to draw nice pictures and design cool spaces. It takes a lot of formal study to be considered professional, so make sure that you are investing your time in educating yourself about the field.

Most architects have at least one degree, if not two or three. With each additional degree, designers can expect to earn higher paychecks. Some employers even require at least a bachelor’s degree for employment.

An associate’s degree is usually enough to begin working as an apprentice under an experienced architect. A bachelor’s degree is needed for most entry level positions such as assistant designer. Professionals often start out with just a high school diploma before advancing their career.

Another important factor when looking into architecture schools is how popular they are. Many students succeed in finding jobs right after graduation, which demonstrates that these institutions help prospective professionals find work.

However, it should also be noted that some universities are known for poor job placement rates. Looking into the reputation of any given college will play a major role in determining if this is true or not.

Be realistic with your expectations

I’ve seen aspiring architects put in hours of hard work that go nowhere because they expect their office to be flooded with clients.

Architects are not professionals who get paid large sums of money easily, which is why most people can’t afford to hire one.

As such, most offices need time to build up business before new projects come rolling in. It takes time to find an architect you feel comfortable working with, to manage his or her schedule, and to gain their trust as a collaborator.

If you want to become an architect, don’t set your expectation levels too high. You should know that even top architects struggle to meet their own professional standards and it took them years to get there.

Thinking you will succeed quickly is very likely to hurt your morale and discourage you from putting in the effort needed to reach your goal.
