How to Become An Architect

Being an architect is a lot of things to a lot of people. It can be defining your life as it follows a set career path or not, it can be inspiring others by creating beautiful designs or telling them how to construct buildings, and it can be making big money.

Whatever you choose to do with your architecture career, don’t ever feel like you’re doing it because you want to, instead try to add value to the field and develop yourself as an artist.

You should always strive to make what you create interesting, well-designed, and aesthetically pleasing. If you find something you love, then pursuing that thing is the best decision you could possibly make.

Architecture is a complex discipline that requires lots of different skills and areas of expertise, so developing yours is important. You shouldn’t worry about finding ways to get paid for it though, being an architect is one of the most satisfying careers there are.

It also doesn’t hurt to start networking and talking about architecture, even if you aren’t planning to pursue it as a career.

Become a sculptor

As we already mentioned, drawing is one of the most fundamental skills to become an architect or any other type designer. Many architects begin with basic drawing as students are required to take at least two art classes in college (typically sculpture and illustration).

Sculpting is also a very important tool for designers. There are many ways to be a sculptor; you can learn by yourself, with online tutorials, or even buying some cheap supplies and trying your hand!

Many large companies have design departments that include professional artists. If you’re interested in getting into the field, this may be a good way to start. These departments often offer formal training programs or apprenticeships so seeking out those is a great way to get started!

And don’t forget about teaching yourself! While it may not pay well now, being a practicing artist comes with lots of opportunities later in life.

Become a photographer

While not every architect is trained in photography, most are familiar with it! Architectural photographers are hired to capture beautiful pictures of buildings or interior spaces.

Most architects have learned how to use Photoshop and other software to edit and enhance their photos. Some even take advanced photo-editing classes so that they can do things like color balance, exposure, and composition correctly.

Being able to take good photographs is just as important as being able to design interesting structures! An architectural photograph that is totally wrong actually detracts from the image more than something poorly designed.

Architecture students sometimes get picked on for using bad photographic skills, but don’t worry! You will learn those tricks soon enough!

Becoming an architecture student doesn’t mean you need to be studying skyscrapers, either! There are many different types of studies and specializations within the field. A student may study historic renovations, small residential projects, large scale building designs, etc.

There are also some courses which focus more on educating the public about the beauty of space and form, or how to appreciate great art.

While not every person becomes an architect, or even chooses to be professional about it, everyone can become a practicing artist. Artists are people who create things using any number of techniques and materials. What kind of art they make depends on what tools they have access to; whether it's a brush or a computer program, they use them to express themselves!

Artists are typically categorized as either trained professionals (like architects) or non-trained individuals (like potters). But no matter what area of artistic expression you choose to pursue, you must understand that creating art is a process. There are many steps in between initial inspiration and presentation of your work for others to see.

As with anything else, there’s always someone more experienced than yourself. Try to find a way to learn from those artists and just by doing so will boost your own skill set. You may also need to evaluate how well you do something before trying to improve upon it.

Become a filmmaker

While studying architecture is an excellent way to learn about space, shape, and decoration, it is not enough. To be an artist, you have to put your design skills to use. As we already discussed, being an architect means designing buildings so there is no need to limit yourself as a film maker.

Filmmaking is more than just putting together shots in order, although that is definitely part of it. A good director creates interesting stories by incorporating themes and concepts into the movie.

They are also very creative in how they organize scenes and storylines. The same goes for architects!

As such, this does not mean sticking plain windows where people stand around talking. An architectural element can add depth, theme, or both to what you are trying to say.

What kind of artist are you? Are you more inspired by color or line, shapes or textures? Do you emphasize realism or abstract styles? If you can’t tell from your style, it is probably best to learn about art forms and what makes them special.

Architecture is one of the most visually stimulating arts out there. As such, becoming an architect isn’t too difficult if you know how to draw. You can even create your own architecture!

There are many ways to become an architect, but some require much less skill than others. For example, someone with very little drawing knowledge may still be able to work as a licensed contractor and design buildings for clients.

However, being a professional architect requires at least a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or planning, plus you need to take the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) and pass it before practicing law as an architect.

There are also several non-degree programs that offer training similar to those education levels, so don’t feel like you have to spend years getting your degree before starting career paths in this field.

Become a writer

Being an architect is more than just picking shapes from a book and putting them together in a space! Architectural design requires writing, mathematics, physics, psychology, and business knowledge. Writing is the most important part of being an architecture professional because it is your legacy.

Your handwriting will be seen everywhere you work, so make sure it’s good. Don’t worry, anyone can do hand writing! There are many free writing programs that people have uploaded onto YouTube. You should look into those to get some tips on how to write like a pro.

Business know-how is very important when it comes to architects. What services does your firm offer? Is there one product or material you use almost exclusively over others? Finding out what products and companies people use within the profession is a great way to learn about the field.

There are always new trends coming up in architectural technology. Looking through magazines and websites can give you all the information you need to know.

Become a painter

While becoming an architect is very attractive, there are many ways to pursue that career path without having to go through the arduous process of receiving your architecture license. Becoming an artist comes with its own set of rules and regulations, but you can still produce beautiful work as an architectural illustrator or designer!

The term “architectural illustration” has become less popular than it was back in the 1980s and 1990s, when architects would hire artists to create designs for logos, brochures, and other advertisements. These designers would be paid per design, not per hour, which makes it more cost-effective for employers to have their employees use pre-existing images or styles they already had put together.

But what if you want to take your artistic skills one step further? What if you wanted to actually develop your drawing and painting abilities so that you could create original works like those you saw displayed during past exhibitions and openings at professional buildings?

You may ask yourself how much money you would need to invest in art before you get such opportunities. Fortunately, this article will talk about some easy ways to start developing your talent as a visual artist.

What makes an architect is not how well they use shapes, but what kind of shapes they are able to use in their designs. Architects use triangles for roofs, squares for walls, circles for foundations, and so on.

Sculptors make things out of materials like clay or metal. The most famous sculptures made from this material are works by Michelangelo; he made his own version of David (the statue of the boy warrior) using melted down metals.

Architects also use mathematics in their work. They must know algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and many other mathematical concepts before they can truly call themselves architects.

The word “architect” comes from the Ancient Greek words arkhe(r) and polites(). Arkhe means builder or maker and polites refers to ruler, master, or leader.
