Creating an architectural drawing can be quite time consuming depending on the size of project. It is not uncommon for architects to do many iterations before they are able to get their diagram perfect.

That is why there are so many ways to create an architecture diagram online. Some good tools free while others cost a small amount of money, but both are great resources that you will enjoy using.

There are several different types of diagrams that you can make with these software programs including floor plans, section drawings, and elevations. This article will focus on how to create a floor plan or apartment layout diagram.

Once you have downloaded your diagram program and logged into your account, you will need to choose which room type you want to draw. There are two main types of rooms people use in this field- bedroom and living area/office space.

After you have picked your room type, you will then pick either a single person desk style setting or a couple person collage style setting. These settings depend on what kind of pictures you would like to include in the diagram.

Lastly, you will have to pick your orientation- landscape or portrait. This depends if you want the picture to fit longer than it should horizontally or vertically!

Now that everything is set up, you will simply have to trace over already prepared shapes or place new shapes where needed. Make sure to pay close attention to any guides that may have been placed on the diagram as well.

Create an outline

Now that you have your source material, you will need to create your diagram using it as an outline. You can do this virtually anywhere, even if you don’t have any software or internet access!

Once again, you will want to pick a program that is similar to the one you used before. Adobe Draw is a good free option. If you are more computer savvy, then you can choose between PowerPoint, InDesign, or Photoshop as your platform.

Whatever program you use, make sure it has tools to organize and format layers. These programs typically offer these in either a toolbar or additional features within the interface. Make sure to check out both!

After your layer structure is set up, you will want to start organizing your shapes into groups. This way you can easily re-arrange them later if needed. Some shape types like lines and squares cannot be organized into groups so they go at the top of your drawing.

Last but not least, remember to save and print your final document! Most companies will ask for you to upload or send their file, which means there will be two extra steps once you are done creating yours.

Draw the diagram

The first step in creating an architecture diagram is drawing your diagram. You can use any software, website, or app that allows you to create diagrams to do this!

There are many great free design softwares available online. Many of these have architect mode where you can add shapes and components to make it look more professional.

We will focus on using Adobe Photoshop for making architectural diagrams as it has some of the most intuitive features. If you already own this program, then you know what we mean!

If you don’t have photoshop yet, I would suggest getting one immediately! It is almost always less than $20 at either Amazon or Newegg (with extra bonuses if you purchase through their links!).

To create an architecture diagram in photoshop, follow these steps.

Color the diagram

Choosing your color scheme is an integral part of creating a professional looking architectural diagram. There are many free, paid, and mixed-mode software packages that allow you to easily create your diagram and then publish it online or onto a device such as a phone or computer.

Most good software will offer several easy ways to choose your colors. You can either pick from their preselected palettes or you can use their color picking tools to find individual colors themselves. The easier way to do this is using their built in tool for picking neutral shades – these usually contain terms like “white”, “gray”, and “black”.

By choosing neutrals as your main palette, you start off with an easy base. Then, you can add other bright, bold colors into the picture to represent different parts of the design! Keep in mind, however, that some diagrams require strong colors to show up well so be careful not to overdo it.

Optional: Take a photo of your diagram

It is not necessary to draw an actual diagram in order to create an architecture design. You can simply take a photograph of your drawing or template and edit it using photoshop, illustrator, or other similar graphics editing software.

This way you do not have to worry about buying expensive software nor does it require having access to a computer! You can easily find free online tools that allow you to edit and remix photos. Some even offer you paid accounts so you do not need to be completely computer savvy for this option.

By taking this route, you will also have the ability to quickly edit and re-edit your designs which helps in creating new patterns and concepts.

Edit the image

The second step in creating an architecture diagram is editing the image of your building or space. You can either use a free drawing software, such as Google Draws or Microsoft PowerPoint, or you can use one of the many online architectural drawing softwares.

Free drawing software will usually have you upload an image and then edit it. Make sure that you are familiar with their features before using them for more complicated drawings.

Online drawing softwrers will allow you to create an account which allows you to access the tools and features they offer. Some only give you basic functions but are priced very reasonably so worth looking into!

Publish the blog post

Now that you have your diagram designed, it’s time to publish it! As we mentioned before, most free software allows you to upload an image and then edit it within their app. Most apps also let you add text and/or other designs.

Some even offer basic drawing tools such as lines or shapes. Some require you to pay subscription fees, but there are many free ones out there! If you would like more elaborate design features, you can look into paid packages.

There are several ways to find these apps. You could head onto YouTube and search “how to make architecture diagrams online.” You could visit websites with reviews for different softwares. Or you could just use Google to do some research and compare notes!

Once everything is all set up, simply pick your favorite tool and start creating! Many people begin by designing in another program and then editing it in the archi-tool. This way you don’t need to spend extra money buying the tool package separately.
