Looking at architecture is very different from looking at other types of art. For one, you have much more freedom than with painting or sculpture. You do not need to be trained in art to appreciate architectural beauty.

On the other hand, there are many styles of architecture that are extremely beautiful to look at. A lot of it comes down to personal taste and what style appeals to you.

It is also important to remember that most buildings were designed for practical purposes. They were built to fulfill a function such as shelter, food production, etc. Buildings with artistic value are sometimes called monuments, but this isn’t always the case.

There are lots of ways to learn about architects and their work, so don’t feel like you can’t get some inspiration by just looking around! Look at different architects

Looking at architecture is more than just looking at pictures of buildings, you need to look beyond that. You have to understand how they put together their materials, what styles they use, and how they develop concepts in their designs.

You can also read up on theories and principles behind certain architectural styles. For example, reading about Neoclassical theory will help you understand why some designers choose that style.

There are many ways to learn about architecture. Some people may suggest going to see or visit sites or museums related to your favorite types of architectures. Others may suggest watching documentaries, listening to lectures on YouTube, or buying books written by architects themselves.

But my most important tip for learning about architecture is to keep studying it! It takes time to get into it, so don’t give up if you feel like you’re not quite understanding something yet.

Look at famous buildings

Looking at architecture is very different from looking at, say, paintings or sculptures. When you look at an architectural work like The Empire State Building or Notre Dame, you are not really thinking about how beautiful the structure is, nor are you exploring what kind of symbolism the designer included in the building.

You are much more likely to focus on the shapes the architect used and whether those shapes were unique or if they have seen before. Universally recognized designs like the pyramid or circle can easily take away from the overall beauty of the structure, so it is important to be aware of which styles are classic and well-known.

Furthermore, instead of trying to figure out what symbols may mean, you can simply compare the structures yourself! There are many free resources available that allow you to explore different architectures side by side, making it easy to do so.

Learn about different architectural styles

Looking into architecture is an interesting past time that can be done for many reasons. Some people learn about it for education, while others enjoy studying various types of buildings and how they are structured.

There are several classic styles in architecture you should know about. These include Neoclassical, Art Deco, Gothic, Romanesque, Chinesse, and so on. All of these have their own look and feel that make them unique.

Neoclassical looks are very clean and elegant. It usually features lots of white or light colors with rounded shapes. This style was popular during the 18th and 19th century when neoclassicism was in its heyday as a design theory.

Art deco is famous for having large geometric patterns and shapes. This style flourished between the 1920s and 1940s and still has many followers today.

Gothic style building feature heavy use of stone and arches. They are also typically quite tall and slender. This style originated in Europe around the middle ages and remains popular to this day.

Romanesque style buildings feature strong vertical lines and pillars. This goes along with the name which comes from Rome where most roman style churches were built.

Chinese architects blend Western styles with theirs making structures that seem familiar but with slight tweaks. A good example of this is the skyscraper which resembles a pyramid but with thinner walls.

Consider the location of the building

The first thing you should do when looking at an architecture work is consider where it is located. Is this place special or significant? Does it fit with its surroundings?

If so, then great! But if not, then it’s time to think about what attributes make the space interesting. Perhaps there are other buildings like it in the area that use similar styles. Or perhaps it’s unique due to its shape or materials.

Whatever the case may be, add these effects to your repertoire by taking some time to study them.

Look at the materials used

Materials are an integral part of any architect’s design process. They play a significant role in defining the look and feel of a space as well as adding value to the space.

Think about it – how would something look without metal, glass or plastic?

By looking into what material(s) an element is made off, you can determine how important they are to the overall look and style of the piece.

For example, if an item was designed to be touched constantly, like a table top, then using non-tactile materials may not make sense. If the item is meant to emphasize quality, then look for examples of durable materials.

There are many ways to identify the materials used in an architectural design. You do not necessarily have to go out and visit the site of a building to know what metals, plastics and/or glass it uses, nor does it mean hiring someone to help you find this information.

Some websites offer up such information for free! An easy way to do this is by going onto Google and searching “material xyz website.” There you will be able to view all of the features, colors and sizes of whatever product they mentioned.

Google also has a feature where you can create a list of products and see what sites mention them, which is very helpful.???? Make sure to test your browser settings so that the feature works properly.

Consider the scale of the building

A common mistake people make when looking at architecture is thinking that anything larger than what they would consider normal size is too large. This can be very misleading, as not all buildings are designed for practical use or function!

There are many reasons why an architect may design something beyond our usual limits of space. For example, some architects enjoy creating beautiful shapes which they feel connect with their internal creative process. They may also want to draw attention to themselves by designing something spectacularly eye-catching.

These types of architects usually go into much higher demand because people look at them and say “wow, who designed this?” It seems like there is always one such designer around.

However, although it may appeal to your inner aesthete, it should still make you feel uncomfortable if you are trying to relax or have fun outside. In those cases, try to give yourself a little extra cushion before assigning importance to the shape of the roof.

Another reason why an architect might choose to work in oversized scales is due to the nature of the material used. Some materials require more room to breathe, so roofs will remain thinner. Also, if the structure contains curved or rounded parts then the thickness of the wall cannot be determined just from counting floors and walls.

Learn about different types of architecture

The term ‘architecture’ has gotten pretty loose these days, but that doesn’t mean there are not hard rules for the field. In fact, there are actually eight major categories or modes under which architects work.

So what are they? And how do you know if you’re in one of them? Here we will discuss each type and whether you should consider yourself an expert.

The first two modes are practical and theoretical. What this means is that instead of designing something like a house, you design concepts for houses – things like defining a floor plan or figuring out where the ideal kitchen area would be.

These types of architects usually have masters degrees in art or architectural studies so they understand proportions and such. But they're not necessarily building professional level designers.

Look at the design of the building

There’s no need to be overwhelmed by all these shapes, lines and colors. What matters most is how well the structure functions as a space and how aesthetically pleasing it is.

Take time to really look at the architecture you find inspiring. You don’t have to understand anything about it beyond its shape and color, but there should be some element in the layout that resonates with you.

It could be the way a line flows across the page or the balance between proportions. It could be the use of light or textures. Or maybe it’s just the way it makes you feel.
