A lot of students don’t have an architecture portfolio, which is kind of weird since most college courses require at least one academic paper or presentation per semester. Creating an architectural design project that truly showcases your skills can be tricky however!
That’s why I’ve put together this article full of tips and tricks to help you out. You will learn how to make an architecture project that looks professional and doesn’t cost too much!
I’ll also talk about some things that can easily get in your way when it comes to designing so that you’re not discouraged.

In the next stage, you will be creating a new portfolio website using one of our pre-made theme templates or designing your own template. You can use this site as a starting place if you choose!
To make it more interesting, try to include only pictures of completed projects that are linked directly from your website. Don’t add sketches, flow diagrams, or anything beyond just images — we get design software all the time!
Your architecture school should have some kind of art gallery where you can show off student work so don’t feel shy about looking around there.

Now that you have gathered all of your favorites, it is time to start creating your own architecture portfolio!
The first thing we will do is choose a platform where you can easily organize and access your images and documents. Most people use free online storage such as Flickr or Google Drive but these services limit the number of files you are allowed to upload at one time.
That’s not a problem when you are starting out as an architect, but as you grow as designer your collection will expand!
There are some other paid alternatives out there like Adobe Creative Cloud which also offer very generous plans. But this is definitely not necessary early in your career if you don’t have much money!
Any device with internet access and space to store pictures and information is good enough! You can create an account on both Flickr and Google Drive and just add whatever you want to include later.

A few tips about taking pictures for your portfolio are talking about it, doing it, and having them! If you’re already have some shots of architecture sites, then great!
But if you don’t, no worries! Taking pictures is pretty easy. You can take as many or little ones as you want, but make sure they're good.
Treat yourself and learn how to use photoshop so that you can edit and enhance your images later.
Now let's talk about what kind of photographs you should include in an architectural portfolio.

As we mentioned earlier, creating an architecture portfolio is more than just picking pictures and writing short descriptions of projects. It’s about documenting your skills as an architect, it’s about showcasing your process and creative ability, and it’s about telling the story of who you are as an artist.
Your architectural career will be filled with milestones, such as receiving your degree or being promoted at work, so make sure that you document these events in your life.
These events can include graduation, getting married, having children, etc., but they should also focus on achievements beyond the workplace, such as traveling or reading a book that inspired you.
After you have designed at least three projects, it is time to start looking into how to make an architecture portfolio. The first way to do this is to tell your friends that they can use what materials you used or inspired them to use in their design portfolios!
By sharing your resources with others, they can update or create new designs using your styles, patterns, or themes. This is especially helpful since most people are not trained in graphic designing so having accessible material helps inspire other designers.
Another way to promote your program is to add “architecture” as a skill to your online courses directory. There are many free sites where you can list your course so people will be able to find it easily.
Your school could also put together a student group or departmental site with all of these features built in, which would help spread your message more widely.

After deciding how you want to showcase your skills, what style of photography is best for you to use, and where to find appropriate pictures or buildings to include in your portfolio, it’s time to actually create it!
Making your architecture portfolio isn’t just about having great photos, it’s also about maintaining consistency across all aspects of your work.
For example, if you have five different types of photographs included in your portfolio, none of which are clearly focused on one thing, then people will likely question whether or not you can really afford to do only that type of photography. If your focus changes from shot to shot, then you won’t be able to prove this fact to anyone!
Also, if you upload random, cluttered looking images onto social media sites like Instagram, then people will doubt the quality and professionalism of your architectural talent. People look at these accounts as examples of what others should be doing so they may subconsciously feel less inclined to invest in professional services themselves.
It would be helpful to know early on in your career when potential clients view online sources for inspiration. By incorporating clear, well-edited images into your own personal archi-styled account, you could help them see the value in investing in professional services.

The next step in creating an architecture portfolio is offering your services. If you are already working in the field, then sharing what projects you have done is a great way to showcase your skills!
If you are still early on in your career, it is okay to start by offering your time as an architect. This can be designing concepts or doing preliminary studies of buildings and sites.
Make sure to clearly describe what you will do beyond just giving a brief description such as “I will design this building”. Tell people exactly what you will do, and if there are any limitations to your service, make clear that they are not able to change anything about the project.
We always recommend using free sources first to prove yourself before propping up a fee. There are many ways to offer your expertise to other professionals without charging them for it.

It’s great to have a beautiful looking portfolio, but it won’t matter much if you can’t read or understand it. You should be careful about spending too much time designing and arranging pictures and shapes, as this could distract students from reading your architectural expertise.
Instead of focusing on how to design a pretty picture, focus more on displaying your knowledge and strengths through interactive diagrams, examples, and explanations.
This will make your portfolio more professional and interesting. Try taking some classes related to architecture so that you can include those in your designs!
You should also take notes during class and organize them later. This way you don’t have to worry about remembering everything, and you can quickly refer back to past lessons.
In addition to educating people about different styles and types of buildings, you can show off some specific projects suchas yours.
