As architects, we are in charge of designing buildings or areas to be inhabited and lived in. This includes everything from where you place the furniture and how many rooms there should be, to what colors and materials they use.
The word “architect” comes from the greek words archi(χρηστικός) which means benefactor and tropos (παργία) which means change or transformation. Therefore, an architect is one who designs things that benefit people/land by changing it or transforming it.
There is no formal education required to become an architect in America but most large firms require at least some degree of either Bachelor's Degree In Architecture Or A Professional Certificate In Architectural Technology. Both of these can usually be obtained through university settings or professional certification programs.
However, neither of those two degrees requires you to have your own business nor does it require you to work as an architect.

While not every architect needs to have a degree in art, design or humanities-related fields, it is still important to know your history! Histories of architecture are typically categorized into three major periods: ancient, classical, and modern/avant-garde.
In the early stages of architectural development, people built monuments to show off their skills and knowledge. These buildings were mostly made out of stone and had elaborate decorations and sculpture. Some even constructed entire cities this way! Ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and Greeks left us with many impressive structures that we admire today.
The second period was called Classical Architecture. This was the time frame when most countries got their official “look”. Buildings resembled each other closely because architects learned from one another. It is also the era where famous landmarks such as The Coliseum and The Parthenon were designed.
The third stage was Modernism, which is now considered outdated. However, before it fell out of style, it influenced some of the world’s top designers today. Famous examples include Bauhaus (the German school of thought that focused on functionality) and Le Corbusier’s work (stripped down designs that emphasize clean lines).
The word ‘jee’ comes from the Sanskrit word जी, which means to know or be familiar with. It is typically used in conjunction with other words to describe something that is fundamental or integral to what you are studying.
For example, when learning about art at the university level, there is an understanding of how colors relate to each other and how this applies to painting. There is also knowledge of drawing, proportion, and so forth. All of these things are considered under the umbrella term of visual literacy.
Similarly, in architecture, there is an underlying theory of construction that includes concepts such as line, ratio, space, and function. These fundamentals apply across all styles and genres of building design.
Having a solid base of knowledge in any one area is important, but having a deep understanding of several areas gives you more flexibility in designing buildings. This may be developing your own unique style, or knowing how to integrate someone else’s ideas into yours.
It can even help if you want to go back to school to become an architect! You would need to have enough basic skills to compete with professionally trained architects, but not necessarily beyond that level.
We refer to this general body of knowledge as entry-level architectural expertise. In fact, it is often referred to as basis knowledge because it is a prerequisite to further study. A student cannot advance their education without it.

Like engineers, architects are trained in mathematics and science. But unlike most engineers, they go beyond pure math and physics to include concepts of art and humanities.
Architects must be creative and understand how people respond to space and design. This includes colors, materials, and textures that appeal to consumers.
They also need to know about history and culture to identify trends and patterns. Many architects are famous artists as well, drawing inspiration from nature, proportion, and style.
However, being an architect is not just about looking pretty or doing things because it looks cool. They help build structures and environments that satisfy practical needs and make people happy. It is their expertise in these areas that makes them special.
Many architectural schools do not require students to take any art courses aside from general education classes like painting and sculpture. These classes usually do not qualify as credits towards graduation.
Artists who want to practice what they learn should look into opportunities to hone their skills by taking up a medium you love and sharing your work with others.

Another important area of influence is art, or as some like to refer to it as ‘architecture’. Artists create works of art that appeal to people because they use familiar concepts and patterns.
Architects take these ideas from art and apply them to real life buildings. For example, architects often use proportion and rhythm when designing homes and offices.
These concepts are connected to another major theme in artistic work – human nature. Proportion and rhythm speak about how humans relate to each other and the surroundings around them.
So really, if you can draw inspiration from artists, then you have fulfilled one of the basic requirements for being an architect.

As we can see, there are many ways to be an architect. You do not need to have a degree in architecture to practice this career!
Being an architect is a very diverse field that involves different specializations. Some examples of these include:
Environmental or urban planning
Civil engineering- such as landscape design, water management, or infrastructure (roads, sewers, etc.)
Computer aided drafting and designing (CAD)
Interior decoration
Graphic design
Landscape painting
While some of these may seem like separate fields, they all share one thing with each other – being an architect.
That is why it is important to connect with people in related areas. By doing so, you will find out what kind of opportunities exist in architectural careers and which ones are non-existent.
By mixing and matching various skills, you can start creating your own unique style while also expanding horizons.
Held by most professional organizations, the bachelor’s degree in architecture is still considered the standard across the country.

As we know, not every school of architecture requires you to be trained in art or design. Some schools do require some formal education in these areas, however!
Most architects need at least a bachelor’s degree in either interior or exterior designing with a focus in one area or the other. But they don’t necessarily have to continue their studies beyond that point either.
Many experienced architects never formally studied art or design, and there is no reason why you should feel limited because of this!
Art and creativity are important tools for any architect to use in his/her career, and it would be wrong to limit yourself due to lack of training in something that you will be using your skills for.

As we know, not every profession requires an architect to be licensed or certified. For example, someone with engineering training can often assume leadership roles as engineer (for instance, project manager), but they typically do not get assigned the title of “architect”.
Likewise, some architecture professionals are self-taught and thus do not have formal education in engineering beyond high school.
But while having an architectural degree is helpful when trying to establish career opportunities in the field, it is actually not necessary to practice what we call professional architecture.
That being said, there are several ways that architects connect with other professions around the country. Some conduct educational programs for others, help them create designs, or work together on projects as partners or collaborators.
So how does all this relate to you? If you’re already working in the fields of architecture or design, then you should definitely keep doing so!
However, if you want to grow your career by establishing connections with people from other disciplines, look into whether an accredited program is available through your state board.

As human beings, we need to connect with other people to feel happy and fulfilled. Architects are professionals who help others achieve this by serving as an intermediary between them and the designed space or building.
As architects, our jobs can sometimes seem disconnected from real life – it’s more like we're in creative business mode than employee-employer mode.
But that's not what employment is about; it's about helping your employer make themselves more efficient so they can satisfy their customers. In turn, their employees will be happier because of that.
Clients come and go, but professional relationships are something you build and strengthen over time. You'll have some that last a week, a month, even a year, but eventually therewillbe amost significant loss when those times comes.
Finding new connections isn't easy, which is why most people don't do it. But if you want to be successful, you've got to reach out and try.
