K-state Architecture Curriculum

An architecture curriculum can be tough to find, especially if you are not familiar with how schools teach this material. Most universities have an academic department that has either an MArch or BArS degree or both. These departments typically offer classes such as Architectural Theory, Principles of Construction, Drawing, Environmental Design, and others. Some even offer courses in Computer Applications for Architects (such as AutoCAD).

However, these courses may not go into much detail about what actually makes up an architect. For example, they might talk about proportion, line, mass, and space but nothing more than that. They also may not discuss who the architects were nor anything related to their field. This is where things get tricky because there are no universal rules when it comes to what makes an architect.

If you want to know what it takes to be an architect then you will need to look outside of academia. You will need to research different fields such as engineering, design, and business so that you do not take something else’s theory seriously.

In addition to studying design theory, students can take an additional two courses focused on applying those theories in practice. These are Introduction to Art + Graphic Design or Interior Stylist Course. Both of these courses focus more on developing your artistic talent as you apply concepts such as color theory, proportion, and so forth.

The interior stylist course is taught through several sessions that cover furniture assembly, basic painting, room planning, and other related skills.

KS School of Architecture

The Kansas State University College of Architecture, Art and Humanities offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in architecture. These degrees can be earned either directly through the school or via an accredited architectural program such as UT’s or OSU’s.

The university has two main campuses located in Manhattan and Logan. Both are within close proximity to downtown areas and major employers in the area.

A student may choose to focus on urban planning, landscape design, interior design, fashion design, graphic design, or theater stage design. All students must take courses in at least three of these fields, but not all majors require coursework in every field.

For example, some graduates opt to remain in the practice of architecture while also teaching others how to put together furniture or designing clothing. Others go onto more advanced studies like environmental design or urban planning.

Architecture Department

The architecture department at Kansas State University offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in architectural design. These degrees can be either professional or academic, with most being focused on designing buildings or landscapes.

Undergraduate students are typically accepted into one of three tracks within the department: landscape architecture, interior design, or urban design. Each track is geared towards developing different skills that can later be applied to other areas of practice (such as business for landscape architects and residential for interior designers).

Landscape architects focus more on nature and how to best use it to inspire creativity while also solving practical problems related to water, soil, plants, and vegetation. Interior designers work mostly with space and materials so they can create aesthetically pleasing environments.

Urbanists study cities and their growth by looking at everything from transportation systems to culture. They pay special attention to how people interact with each other and the environment around them.

Graduate level studies vary slightly depending on which program you choose, but all have strong theoretical foundations paired with hands-on experience. This gives you greater exposure to what professionals do, not just in architecture, but in similar fields such as engineering or graphic arts.

Graduate School of Architecture

For those students who have always had an interest in architecture, or for current practicing architects looking to broaden their skills, the graduate program at Kansas State University is a great way to advance your career as an architect!

The department offers both masters’ degree programs and doctoral degrees. The master’s level programs are focused more on theory and leadership, while the doctorate level programs focus more on practical applications of concepts.

Either option can be completed within four years, but most people choose to spend two additional years for professional development before entering into employment. Both programs require a bachelor’s degree in any subject area along with appropriate admission to the specific program.

There are many ways to gain experience outside of classroom settings such as by participating in local projects or serving on committees for architectural organizations.

School of Planning

The school that teaches students how to design buildings is called architectural drawing or, more commonly, architecture. These individuals are trained in how to draw pictures of houses, skyscrapters, and planets.

Architectural drafting is considered an integral part of the field of building design. Architects must be able to create these drawings mechanically, so they learn basic drawing software like Adobe Illustrator first.

Next, they take their knowledge into computer softwares such as Autodesk Revit (a very popular one) where architects can actually construct layouts and models of entire buildings.

This way, they are not only able to conceptualize beautiful designs, but also physically produce them! Architectural drafters usually have additional training in interior decoration or furniture making as well.

These skills are important to know because most importantly, they help you identify what materials and features would work best for a given project. For example, if you want to make sure your house’s kitchen looks clean and organized, then you should consider buying a refrigerator with lots of doors. Or maybe space saving appliances are what you look for in a cooktop.

There are many ways to go about learning architectural drawing. Some universities offer it as a degree program while others require students to take courses directly from the department. Many colleges offer both options depending on which departments need workers at this time.

However, no matter what path you choose, there are always some fundamentals in order to start.

Master of Architecture

The MArch curriculum is organized into five major areas that together make up one two-year degree. These are: theory, human geography, urban planning, design principles, and technology application. Each area has several courses you can take depending on your career path as an architect.

Theory includes architecture history, art history, political science, sociology, and economics. These cover everything from why buildings look the way they do to how power structures work in society to which materials are used in making architectural styles.

Human geography teaches about different environments and what effects they have on people. This includes things like how light impacts moods and sleep cycles, or how water is essential for life.

It also looks at how public spaces affect community growth and engagement. Both students and professionals need exposure to these concepts if they want to be good architects.

Urban planners learn about all aspects of city infrastructure such as transportation systems, electricity supply, and communication networks. They also study land use regulation, zoning laws, and historic preservation. All of this helps ensure our cities remain livable and secure.

Design principals focus on shaping space through using geometry, proportions, and colors to create aesthetically pleasing shapes and experiences. This applies not only to interior rooms but exterior designs as well. Technology applications include learning how to operate computer programs for designing, drawing, 3D printing, and other ways to get creative ideas.

Bachelors of Architecture

For those students who have already completed at least their sophomore year in college, or are currently working towards their junior year, they can begin to think about seeking an architecture degree from Kansas State University.

Most colleges offer either an associate’s degree in interior design or a bachelor’s degree in architectural technology. Both of these degrees do not require any additional courses beyond what has been covered before.

Students must still be certain that they are ready to take the Architectural Technology Examination given by ABET (The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Professional Testing) which is administered twice per year. This test covers basic drawing, modeling, designing concepts, and software.

Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture

The architecture curriculum at most universities is usually only one or two courses per semester, depending on whether you’re an undergraduate student or graduate student. At the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Urban Development (KAU), however, we offer students much more than that!

Under our new doctoral program, there are six core modules which each student must take for a total of three academic years. Each module consists of 2–4 individual courses with about 10–20 hours of lecture content and 5–10 hours of lab activity per week, making it a very close approximation to a full semesters worth of instruction.

These modules can be completed either as part of your degree plan or independently. For example, some people choose to spend their first year focusing almost exclusively on theory before moving onto practicing practical skills in their second year. Others may prefer to do it the other way around or even have separate plans for each year.
