This article will discuss reasons why art is fun, and which form of art is more fun.
We spend hours and hours each day in front of a screen watching movies, TV shows, playing video games, browsing the web and reading books.
Although some may argue that you have to have a love of the internet or movies in order to be as dedicated as you are, the truth is that it's the screen you use to enjoy the activity that leads you to be so focused on it.
Art, on the other hand, allows you to enjoy the activity for what it is and for as long as you'd like. There is no limit to the amount of time you'd like to take away from the activity if you allow yourself to do so.
We spend a lot of our time in front of a screen, and the screen is a very common way to pass time. One of the ways we pass the time is with TV or video games.
As a result, when we reach the end of our work day or a deadline, we're stuck in front of the TV or a computer screen. Instead of doing anything else, we often become a bunch of couch potatoes with nothing else to do.
Art helps you escape that situation and focuses your attention on something else.
In one of his "Master Class" lectures, artist Jim Shaw commented, "If you're staring at a monitor, you're not thinking deep thoughts; you're thinking about what you just ate and that there's nothing to watch, or think about for that matter."
According to a study done by Dr. John Medina, who wrote a book about "How We Work," most of us are prone to thinking a few thoughts at a time and not thinking about the big picture.
"When you're not physically thinking about something, your mind isn't getting a chance to mentally plan or prioritize," Dr. Medina said.
"If you're in front of a screen, you're either thinking about watching TV or Facebook or other things that you're doing."
So what is it that you could be doing in the free time you have between work and home?
If you'd rather spend it on something more meaningful, then doing something artistic is an excellent way to avoid having your mind get distracted from the larger things going on in your life.
This may be the most important reason why you should consider doing something artistic as a form of relaxation. Most people will agree that when you are relaxed, you tend to think more clearly.
When you are relaxed, you make better decisions. When you make better decisions, you are less likely to make bad ones, and this is particularly true when it comes to our health.
Unfortunately, modern-day activities like sitting in front of the computer, watching TV, shopping, reading or browsing the web seem to keep us up at night, toss and turn, and act less attentive during the day.
To put it bluntly, modern-day activities are addictive and this is because they keep you addicted to them.
Art, on the other hand, has been proven to reduce your stress levels, and may actually help you better manage your anxiety and depression.
So, why would you even want to do anything less than spending the time you have being mindful and doing something you love?
When we first make the choice to be mindful, we become aware that there is an outside world around us. In this way, we're on a much more mission-oriented path and experience better things than we are in the moment.
When we put an artist's canvas up against a blank screen or paint a blank canvas and allow ourselves to wander without a clear purpose, we are more easily able to think more creatively.
By doing so, you may discover the next big idea that you couldn't have found in any other way.
Sometimes when we get overwhelmed, we simply need to go for a walk. This is true for the mind as well. If you want to put the whole "meditation" thing to the test, you may want to try drawing or painting.
Many times, when we are very stressed, we don't have a clear picture of the problem. We go back and forth on what is going on and we get so lost in that that we can't focus on any one thing.
Instead, we should be more able to stay in the moment and think about what's going on in our lives. Letting go of the past and trying to focus on the present moment brings a lot more clarity to your life.
As well, when you use art to help you brainstorm new ideas, the two go hand-in-hand.
Art, at its core, is about escapism. When you're getting an idea out of your head and onto a canvas, your mind is already getting away from your problems, anxieties, stress or the worries of the world for a short time.
This might not seem like a healthy activity but it is, especially if you're stressing over your diet, your work, your health, your relationships or something else.
That moment when you pour your heart into a piece of art can be a powerful one. The act of simply coloring is also a way to help people with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The use of coloring as therapy is extremely effective and is recognized as one of the most effective treatments for PTSD.

"Praise, and you are dead, praise, and you are alive; praise, and you will eat and be satisfied, praise." - Proverbs 27:3
When people don't have an outlet for their emotions, they often find themselves inside their own heads, ruminating over their problems.
By coloring or painting, you take your focus away from your thoughts and put it on to creating something beautiful. It is a stress reliever.
While I usually find meditation and art equally enjoyable, I believe art is a better choice for relaxation. Many times, artists have to sit and think in order to make their art.
By doing this, they are working through their problems, thinking creatively and working through their issues in an organized manner.
In contrast, just putting on some background music and trying to focus on the rhythm of the beat while doing your day-to-day activities can be a better choice for when you're feeling a little stressed.
While you're thinking creatively, you're also finding a way to let yourself go. These two go hand-in-hand.
Many times, art can be a form of empowerment.
When you have a sense of purpose and are expressing yourself through art, you're overcoming something.
