The key to selling on Fine Art America is to stay organized. That means creating a list of galleries that you’d like to send your work to.
At a bare minimum, your art should be featured in one of the gallery’s current group shows. Many art galleries will offer a small commission on sales.
Also, keep in mind that you can send your art to many galleries at once. There are galleries that are limited to 2-3 paintings a month from artists. You can send up to 7 paintings a month to any gallery.
When you’re done with your contact, go to the Gallery section of the site and enter your name, address, email, and the names of the galleries to which you want your artwork to be sent.
You can also email them at sales@fineartamerica.com. There are certain websites and galleries that will not take submissions by email. To get an idea of the people and galleries that they accept, just go to the galleries section of the site.
Tip: To speed things up, you may want to fill out your request in advance to prevent potential delays. Don’t send an email unless you’ve filled out the form or set up a call.
Keep in mind that your artwork must be framed and matted in order to be accepted by the gallery. If your work isn’t perfectly framed and has borders, it’s not going to get through. You can’t send it with a custom frame unless you purchased one.
When sending your work, make sure you include some basic information about your work, like dimensions, price, and material. You can always add this information once it’s framed.
You can find the business address for the gallery you want to send your work to here.
The next thing you’ll need to do is contact the gallery you have chosen. This is where things can get tricky. Don’t stress out if you can’t find them. We’ve done all the hard work for you. The gallery is listed here on the Fine Art America site.
If you don’t have a phone number, you can use Google Voice to call the gallery at any time. Just visit the Gallery page and click on the Contact tab.
Click on the + under the Calls & Mails section. Enter your call information and submit. If you’re not already a member of Google Voice, you can sign up for an account here.
It’s a good idea to be polite, even if you’re not feeling the gallery vibe. People will be flattered to hear from you. If the gallery asks for more information or wants a price quote, be sure to provide them.
Once you receive an email from the gallery that says your artwork was received, that’s it! All you have to do is send a payment for the work and you’re on your way.
Fine Art America will take care of the rest. Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay a small processing fee and a transaction fee.
Remember, you have to send the correct size of canvas in order to get the proper commission rate. If you send an artist print or sheet of watercolor paper, you will only be able to receive a half commission rate.
That’s why it’s so important to get your work framed first. When you send your artwork, it will go to the artist you have chosen. This process can take several weeks. If you have the right size, it will arrive in time.
