Why Dance As A Form Of Art Is Universal

Dance is a Universal Art

This article will discuss why dance as a form of arts is universal.

Modern dance forms can be broken into four sub-genres: ballet, contemporary, tap, and jazz. Each of these genres of dance varies in which dancers make up the groups and the kind of movement they do.

Their steps or styles vary, but one thing that they all have in common is that they all move their bodies in a certain way that requires co-ordination, flexibility and creativity.

This is how dance works and this is what makes it art. It is a physical art form that requires athletic ability, the ability to know your body, a sense of self, an ability to stay in control and on a constant emotional edge and most importantly, a very, very deep understanding of human connection.

Jazz, for example, is the best example of how dancing can be a universal language. The dances that are improvised in jazz are usually long and have multiple different movements.

One dance could consist of one movement or many movements that happen simultaneously or run in a specific order.

The movements that make up the dance often mirror the ideas that the artist is trying to express. The repetition of the movement or the emotions the artist is trying to convey are all reflected in the dancer's dance style.

In fact, it is this notion of movement and also the way of expressing an emotion that makes dance unique among the arts.

Most people have noticed this and most people have acknowledged the fact that dancing is a language that allows you to convey your emotions and feelings.

Though you may not be able to be a dancer, and you may not be able to be an artist, there is something universal about dancing that people can recognize and appreciate.

It is not a one-way communication either. You can communicate with a dance that is choreographed for you in many different ways, and the fact that you are able to do this is what makes dance so fascinating.

The world dances.

Various countries like India, China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Egypt, Russia, the US, Brazil, and Italy are all known for their high level of dance in their respective countries.

And not only do we dance to watch a lip-synching human-drum machine perform, we dance because we are expressing our passion, our culture, our social interactions, and our emotions in a non-threatening and less controlled fashion.

There are many scientists, doctors, and philosophers who do not have the ability to articulate, as eloquently as Freud, what dance is.

Instead, they explain that dance is a form of communication; it is an extension of our body that expresses thoughts, emotions, desires, and tendencies, and human bodies are highly adaptive mechanisms.

Dance is also a form of art.

And even though the people in the gallery or in the museum are watching a 2D image on the wall, the artist's work transcends the physical location.

His message comes alive and interacts with our own physical body.

So it is no surprise that the tradition of classical dance as a form of art became highly diverse among cultures as well, which ultimately evolved into the different varieties of dance that are performed today.

So if dance is considered as a form of art, and it has a wide range of forms and effects from even just the traditional dances of old to the completely modern dances of today, then we could safely say that dance is a universal art form that has a massive range of cultural significance, social, and expressive capabilities, as well as deeply ingrained cultural meanings.

The Human Body Is Highly Adaptive

The human body is highly adaptable and our anatomy has multiple flaws that are designed in order to ensure our survival.

To survive in this wild, harsh, hostile, and unforgiving environment, our bodies have mechanisms in place that work together to make sure that the least amount of food is consumed, the most amount of energy is expended in order to grow, and that we are able to adapt to any environmental challenges.

The same is true for the human body as a form of art.

Even though there are limitations and mistakes to be made, our anatomy is highly adaptable to create a form of art that would have as many forms as it has colors, aural, visual, and tactile perceptions.

We don't need a rigid form of art that always sticks to the classical methods and techniques that we were born with in order to create a form of art.

We can be as flexible as the human body itself and be able to create a form of art that we are truly passionate about.

With this in mind, it is no surprise that one of the most important areas of art is dance.

Dance Is A Communication Tool

If dance is considered as a form of art, then it needs to be understood that dance is a form of communication.

And like many other forms of communication, the form of dance is meant to create an interaction between the performer and the audience.

What we see is not just what we have been programmed to see but what the performer wanted to see.

What the audience sees is not just what they have been programmed to see but what the performer wanted to see.

This is not to say that the audience cannot view the stage from a completely different perspective.

By viewing the dancer from a different perspective, it allows us to engage with the performer, and this creates a more intimate experience.

It is a medium that allows you to create a new and innovative communication tool between you and the audience.
